2008 Ha Long carnival

2008 Ha Long carnival takes spectators’ breath away

The carnival proceeded from 4pm to 5.30pm on April 26 in Ha long city Quang Ninh province which was later lit up by an impressive firework display lasting in 30 minutes.

The opening ceremony was staged by the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with Son Lam Tourism Co. Ltd.

 

Art performances were held to welcome the festival on the theme “Ha Long – a world cultural heritage”. Artists and performers from Laos and Guang Xi, China also came to join the show on 6 mobile ferries serving as floating stages.

 

On the street from Bai Chay ferry to the tourist site, about 1,000 actors, actresses, locals and tourists took part in a parade of 9 cars decorated with flowers, showing the images of Quang Ninh such as Chua Dong-Yen Tu pagoda and Mong Cai market while dozens of model planes were flying over to make an Air show.

 

Most impressive was the 30-minute firework display, from 10 pm to 10.30 pm over Bai Chay and Cua Luc.

 

Nhu Thi Hong Lien, vice chairwoman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee and head of the organizing board for the 2008 Ha long Carnival said the carnival  attracted a large number of visitors who were all impressed by the beauty of the bay, one of the world’s cultural heritage sites.
