An exhibition of paintings and sculptures, including many by monks, which opened in Ho chi minh city on May 18 high lights the close bonds between Buddhism and Vietnam’s millennia-old culture.
The first stage of the construction of Bai Dinh Pagoda has just been finished to mark the 2008 United Nations Day of Vesak (UNDV) with attendance of more than 2,000 pilgrims, Buddhist monks and nuns on May 17.
Around 100 professional artists performed alongside 108 Buddhist monks and nuns at the first music gala celebrating the UN Day of Vesak on May 14.

Viet nam will host the United Nations Day of Vesak for the first time at the National Conference Center in Ha noi from May 13-17. Vesak is a celebration of the Buddha’s birth, death, and enlightenment.
HCM City – The Ho chi minh City-based Vietravel has launched a series of pilgrimage tours to the land of Buddhism in Vietnam in the north in celebration of the United Nations’ Day of Vesak (UNDV), one of the most important Buddhist festivals marking the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Gautama Buddha.
