Ha Noi, HCMC to Host ‘Europe Days’

The Europe Days in Viet nam 2008, featuring a series of economic events, sports and cultural activities, will be held in Ha noi and Ho chi minh city in May.
The highlight of the festival is the silent film Der Müde Tod, or ‘weary death,’ also known as Behind the Wall and Destiny, by German director Fritz Lang. The symphony orchestra of the Ha noi Conservatory of Music conducted by German Pierre Oser will accompany. The event will take place on May 9 and 10 at the Ha Noi Opera House and on May 12 at the Ho chi minh Conservatory of Music.

There will also be a Spanish concert performed by the Ha Noi Philharmonic Orchestra with Spaniard Carlos Cuesta conducting at Ha Noi Opera House on 8 May.

A European film festival, presenting films of 10 European nations for children and teenagers, will be organized at the National Cinema Center in Ha Noi on May 16-22 and from May 22 – 30 at the New Galaxy Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City.

The month-long event includes a photography show entitled Ha Noi Transformation at the Goethe Institute on April 29 and a discussion of reading culture with Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh, deputy chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Ton Nu Thi Ninh, philosopher Bui Van Nam Son, and Professor Chu Hao at 14 Alexandre de Rhodes in HCMC on May 13.

A fashion gala with designers from France, Italy, Spain and Viet Nam will follow on May 21 at the National Museum of Fine Arts. It will be beautifully enhanced by three other fashion photo exhibits: “Mediterranean beauty” on May 10 at Ly Thai To Square, “A City in the Night” on May 19 at Mosaique Livingroom, 23 Ngo Van So, and “Paris and Milano” on May 23 at L’Espace.

The annual Europe-Vietnam children’s football cup will be held at the National Water Resource University in collaboration with the Children’s Newspaper; a painting contest on gender equality; a European Food Festival organized by the European Chamber of Commerce on May 24 at the National Library, 31 Trang Thi, and for the business community, specialized debates on EU-Vietnam trade relations.

Europe Days reflects the broad-based relationship between the European Union and Viet nam and encourages the building of bridges between the peoples of Viet Nam and Europe.

The fifth annual event is organized by the Delegation of the European Commission to Viet Nam, the embassies of European nations, and the European Cultural Centre in Ha Noi and HCMC. Europe Days 2007 attracted more than 20,000 visitors.
