Foreign tourists visiting Vietnam by sea in the first quarter increased by 17.6 percent against the same period last year and the number is expected to rise by 30 percent this year, said Mr. Vu The Binh, Head of the Travel Department.
Some large cruise ships such as
Super Star Libra, Queen Victoria and Costa Allegra docked in Vietnam, bringing a large
number of tourists from the end of 2007 to now. Saigontourist picked up nearly
20,000 foreign tourists by sea since the beginning of the year, with routes to
Ha Long Bay, Hanoi Hue Danang Hoi an Nha trang Saigon, Cu Chi and My Tho.
They are mainly from China, the
UK, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany and Austria.
Ho Chi Minh
City
saw an increasing number of cruise tourists in the first three months this year.
The number of cruise tourists via Sai Gon Post reached an estimated 13,000, an
increase of 60 percent on year, contributing to raising overall tourism turnover
to 6,700 billion VND, an increase of 38 percent on year.
This is a positive sign for cruise
tourism in particular and Vietnam
tourism in general, and promises a successful year for Vietnam cruise tourism.
