Hcm city — Thousands of local and foreign visitors yesterday attended the fourth annual tourism festival celebrating Viet Nam’s Liberation Day in Dam Sen Park in HCM City’s District 11.


The Hcm city Tourism Festival 2008, which was hosted by HCM City Tourism Department and HCM City Tourism Association, runs from April 18-20 to promote the city’s image as a destination with travel agencies showcasing their packages and deals.

This year’s festival showcases tourism products with 160 booths from 62 travel agencies from 15 provinces and cities including An Giang, Tien Giang, Tay Ninh, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Ben Tre.

Several cultural and sport activities include the Southern Folk Musical Show, a photo contest entitled HCM City – the Hidden Charm, and a southern food and drink festival.

Fourteen renowned hotels and restaurants will offer specialities of Viet nam and the southern region. South Korean food will also be available.

La Quoc Khanh, head of HCM City Tourism Department, says he hopes more local guests, who have received promotional packages through travel agencies, will come to the festival.

Since its inception in 2004, the festival has been held to celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of Viet Nam’s southern region on April 30, 1975.

According to the organization board, more than 100,000 visitors are expected, and 50,000 invitation tickets have been given to tourists. — VNS
