Hcm CITY— French artist Nicolas Cornet began snapping shots of Viet nam and its people in 1988 when he first visited the country.
Having taken many trips
around Ha noi Hcm city and other provinces, he still finds the country fresh
and fascinating because of its changes in economy, culture and lifestyle.
Sixty of his latest colour
photographs are now being shown at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum on Pho Duc
Chinh Street.
His exhibit, Viet Nam,
Debout, la Vie (Viet Nam, Stand up, Life), reflects the daily lives of
Vietnamese people over the last 20 years.
"I think viewers can
see my love for Viet nam through my works," says Cornet , who has travelled
around Asia, including India, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Since first arriving in
Viet Nam 20 years ago, Cornet says he found inspiration in Vietnamese people and
their traditional lifestyle.
Married to a local woman,
he believes the country is his second homeland.
One of his photos is
Going to School, which features two little girls living in a fishing village
in Ha long bay Quang Ninh Province rowing a boat on the way to school. The work
reflects a beautiful scene of blue sky and water.
In Playing Chess,
he uses natural light to depict two men playing chess at home in the afternoon
sun, an image of a peaceful, rural life.
Through Cornet photos,
viewers can sense the soul of Viet Nam and see the values of life, beauty and
love.
The exhibition is part of
French Culture Week launched by the French Embassy and its Vietnamese partners,
which opened last Sunday, featuring music, movie and visual arts.
The exhibit is taking
place at 97A Pho Duc Chinh Street, District 1, HCM City from 9am to 5pm every
day.
