Ho chi minh city welcomed 230,000 foreign visitors in April, an increase of 15 percent from a year ago, according to the Municipal Tourism Department.
Most of the visitors came from the
US,
Japan,
Taiwan (China),
Australia, the
Republic of
Korea,
China,
France,
Singapore,
Malaysia and the
UK.
As a result,
a total of 1,070,000 foreigners visited the city in the past four months,
marking a year-on-year increase of 18 percent and fulfilling 36 percent of the
yearly plan. Total revenue also increased by 25 percent, reaching VND9.3
trillion.
In the same
period, about 270,000 Vietnamese undertook outbound tours through
Tan Son
Nhat International
Airport. Their favourite destinations
included China,
Singapore,
Malaysia,
Thailand and
Cambodia.

Vui, director of the Municipal Tourism Department says that to promote tourism,
the city has published a City Guide in Korean,
Russia, Chinese
and French, and a calendar of major tourist events in 2008.
According to
the director, tourism information kiosks in the city centre and at
Ton Son
Nhat International
Airport have been extremely busy. In
addition, 54 shopping centres and 23 restaurants have so far met the city’s
criteria for providing good services.
The recent
HCM City Tourism Festival attracted 81 enterprises from 15 cities and provinces
across the country. During the event, travel agencies had the chance to meet
directly with consumers to market their products.
The city is
preparing to hold a southern fruit festival, scheduled for this June, and an
international tourism expo (ITE) to be held this September.
