New Ha Long Port Thrown Open To Traffic

Lotus a cruise ship that operates regularly between Hcm city and Ha long bay berthed at the Hon Gai International Passenger Port in Ha Long for the first time last Sunday.

Around 1,000 passengers were traveling aboard the ship. Port authorities said it was the first time that a giant vessel had berthed there. The port cost about VND 645 billion (US$40 million) to build.

The ship, regarded as the most luxurious and modern cruise liner in Viet nam was launched by state-owned Vinashin Ocean Shipping Company last December. 

Vinashin bought the vessel from Italy at a cost of VND1.3 trillion (US$81.25 million). It is equipped with modern facilities, has hundreds of cabins and areas decks for autos and aircraft.

Vinashin plans to make the cruise a daily service.
