Ha Tay embroidered portraits attracts tourists

More and more foreigners have been lured by hand-embroidered portraits by artisans of Ha Tay’s famous craft villages of Quat Dong, Thang Loi and Tu Van.

 

Since the beginning of this year, more and more people have visited and purchased such embroidered pictures. Quat Dong embroidery village receives hundreds of tourists a day. Some have ordered portraits of themselves and their families.

Artisan Hoang Thi Khuong in Quat Dong village said that her workshop signed dozens of contracts with Japanese and Korean customers in early months.

It costs VND 500,000 to purchase a large-sized portrait of celebrities, famous artists embroidered on fine cloth with skillful technology. A 70x90cm embroidered painting costs more than VND 5 million.

An ordered portrait costs at least VND 3.5 million and is delivered one week later.

This traditional craft has helped dramatically raise artisans’ incomes, VND 3-4 million a person a month on average.
