On April 9th in Hanoi leaders from Thanh Hoa province met with the National Heritage Council under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism about the Ho dynasty citadel profile proposing UNESCO recognition of it as a world cultural heritage site.
In 2006, the province established a steering committee for
making the profile to submit to UNESCO. According to history, the Ho
dynasty citadel was built in 1397. It is now situated in Vinh long and
Vinh Tien communes, Vinh Loc district. It has four gates: front, back,
left and right.
The National Heritage Council appreciated the profile by
Thanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee. However, they suggested
adjusting several points to meet UNESCO’s requirements.
The profile will be completed and submitted to the National
Heritage Council in June 2008, said Ngo Hoai Chung, director of Thanh
Hoa provincial Department of Culture and Information.
“If approved, the profile will be submitted to the Prime
Minister and translated into English. If approved by the Prime
Minister, the profile will be sent to UNESCO in November 2008,” said
Mr. Chung.
Mr. Chung also said that he expected that with its great
value, the citadel will be recognized as a world cultural heritage
site.
