Hue Festival

According to the organizing board, this year’s programs are very attractive, suitable to the theme: “Heritage with Integration and Development.”

With the theme “Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development”, Festival Hue 2008 will be a great, impressive, and attractive festival with hundreds of specific cultural and tourist programs aiming at praising unique cultural values of Vietnam and Hue ancient capital.

Festival Hue 2008 will continue to develop the achievements of Festival Hue 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 in the direction of improving artistic quality and professional characteristic in order to deserve the position of a center of culture and tourism, the city of festival of Vietnam. This will be an international cultural and tourist festival, a typical forum for cultural and art exchanges among Vietnam and the regional countries. Festival Hue 2008 will be of Vietnamese and Hue cultural identity, with linkages to the expansion of international exchanges, socio-economic development, and the Central stage of Festival is the fascinating space of Hue Citadel by night with a lot of diversified art stages, Royal Palace by night, royal feasts and attractive, luxurious, and interesting royal games. Beside the Citadel, An Dinh Palace, Thuy Tien Lake, a lot of other places in Hue City and the countryside will be organized as centers for festival with imposing and exciting art performances, folk playgrounds, streets for gastronomy, fairs of handicrafts, tourism, and trade.

Festival Hue 2008 will officially start in the evening of June 3^rd, 2008 in Ngo Mon Square and end in the evening of June 11^th, 2008 on Huong River. One month before the Opening Ceremony, the Festival will be warmed up with a lot of diversified and exciting festivities to welcome Festival Hue 2008.

Festival Hue 2008 will have typical art performances of Vietnamese cultural areas, especially Hue royal art performances, cultural art performances of worldwide countries (France, Japan, China, British, Italia, Spain, the U.S, Korea, Brazil, ect.) with the participation of sister cities, provinces, and areas of Thua Thien Hue Province ( Quebec, Kyong Ju, Haiwaii, Nord Pas de Calais, Poitou Charents, Zhe Jiang, ect.)

The fifth International Sculpture Symposium will open on May 3^rd, 2008 aim at forming to the International Sculpture Park in Hue city. Furthermore, a lot of exciting and attractive festivities to welcome Festival Hue 2008 will be held throughout Hue City and its adjacent areas.

Festival Hue 2008 will continue to revive unique royal festivals festivals of Hue ancient capital with an attractive scale, quality, and performance and the participation of a great munber of artists, actors, actresses, and participants.

Especially, Festival Hue 2008 will revive the enthronement of Nguyen Hue whose later name is Quang Trung, on the occasion of 220 anniversary that Nguyen Hue was put on the throne in Phu xuan (1788-2008); organize the examination for Doctors of military; exploit cultural space of the Royal Arena (Ho Quyen)- the Temple of the Roaring (Voi Re), upper part of the southern citadel area and tombs of the Nguyen dymasties in order to organize a lot of specific cultural festivities, community festivals, and royal festivals in the service of participants.

In Festival Hue 2008, plenty of diversified cultural and tourism activities and festivals will take place in fanciful Hue famous monuments and its adjacent areas, palaces and tombs, ancient towns and traditional trade villages. Tourists will have an opportunity to discover diversified Hue lifestyle, Hue vegetable gardens, Tam Giang lagoon, Truong Son mountain, and Bach Ma – Lang Co – Canh Duong tourist area; to go on a pilgrimage to Hue famous pagodas; to join traditional festivals and folk festivals; to discover various cultural beauty of the ancient capital; to visit mysterious tombs of the Kings and other poetic and mysterious our places; to enjoy Hue traditional food; to enjoy Hue music on floating dragon boats. Moreover, there will be an attractive and unique program entitled “Discovering the Legend of Huong River” on the poetic Huong River.

Festival Hue 2008 will be of great promise to be a festival with a lot of new, specific, impressive, and attractive things to domestic and international tourists.
