Sponsors pledge 8 billion VND for Hue festival 2008

According to the director of Hue festival center, foreign and Vietnamese sponsors have pledged grants of 8 billion VND for organizing Hue festival 2008.

40 art performances from 21 countries all over the world have registered for the festival. These include different types of arts such as music, modern circus and arts installation imbued with specific cultural features of France, United Kingdom, the US, Russia, China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, India, Canada, Australia and Switzerland.

Hue festival 2008, themed “Cultural Heritage during the time of Integration and Development”, will take place in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue from June 3-11.

The highlight of this year’s festival will be a copy of Quang Trung Emperor’s enthronement ceremony, which took place in 1788.

Other activities will include performances of a Respect showing Ceremony for Heaven, the Nam Giao Altar, a Military Doctorate Examination, a Royal Palace Night, “Ao dai” (Vietnamese traditional dress) fashion shows and a programme entitled “Discovering the Legend of Huong River”.

The fifth International Sculpture Camp is also scheduled to be held during the festival.
