A replica of the One-Pillar Pagoda in the capital city of Hanoi was inaugurated at the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Park in Khonken province on May 17.
Provincial officials described the pagoda work as a symbol of the friendship between the people of Thailand and Vietnam , and particularly between the Khonken locals and the Vietnamese community in Thailand .
Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Duy Hung said the One-Pillar Pagoda and the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Park are of great significance as their existence in Thailand help contribute to tightening bilateral friendly relations.
Considered as Vietnam ’s symbol, the pagoda alongside with the park will surely honour cultural values as well as historical, religious and lifestyled similarities between the peoples of Vietnam and Thailand , he stressed.
Construction of the pagoda began in August 2007 with a funding of 1.7 million baht, of which 1 million baht was granted by Khonken authorities and the rest by the community of overseas Vietnamese in the province.
