Vietnam’s second largest carrier Pacific Airlines has announced it will cooperate with Australia ’s Qantas Group to develop a low-cost airline in Vietnam
Under an agreement between Pacific Airlines and Qantas
subsidiary - Jetstar Airways, Pacific Airlines will be rebadged Jetstar
Pacific under the Jetstar brand from May 23 this year.
The first A320 will launch Jetstar Pacific’s operation in
Vietnam during August. It is expected to expand into other markets like
Thailand , Singapore , Malaysia and Cambodia later this year.
The airlines says it intends to have a fleet of 30 A320s with flights increasing eight-fold by 2014.
Pacific Airlines CEO Luong Hoai Nam says Jetstar Pacific will
become one of the largest and fastest growing airline brands in Asia .
The Qantas Group now holds 18 percent of stake in Pacific
Airlines and plans to increase its investment in the airline to 30
percent by 2010.
