Tourists to Ha Long

Surge in number of tourists to Ha Long

The number of tourists travelling to Ha long rose by 60 per cent in the first quarter of 2008 against that of 2007, said officials at a conference to review the campaign to vote for Ha Long as a world natural wonder held on April 23 in Quang Ninh.

According to Dang Van Bai, representative of the Heritage Department, although Ha long has been recognided twice by UNESCO as a world natural heritage, it has so far had no other title. So it is much better for tourism, if it becomes a world natural wonder.

Do Quy Doan, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, said the vote is a good chance to promote not only Ha Long but also the beautiful image of Vietnam. However, involved bodies should further coordinate and effectively carry out the campaign, he stressed.

The Deputy Chairman of the Quang Ninh People’s Committee, the chief of the campaign steering board, said since the inception of the mobilisation, projects on the heritage preservation, tourist investment and management have been running better and more effective. Local people, agencies and tourists have become more aware of environmental protection in Ha Long.
