Vietjet Air, the first Vietnamese private Airline announced its plan to delay its first flight till May next year due to the petrol price increase.
Vietjet got an operation licence in December last year and planned to launch its first flights in December 2008, including international flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore.
When Vietjet Air made its plan, plane fuel was around USD 70 per barrel. However, alongside the increasing price of crude oil, plane fuel is now about USD 140 per barrel, accounting for 65% of the total expenses of Airlines
“The fuel price increase has put pressure on all airlines, not only Vietjet Air,” said Nguyen Duc Tam, Vietjet Air General Director.
Together with the flight delay, Vietjet Air will also postpone the plane renting contract with GECAS. Earlier Vietjet Air planned to rent two Boeing 737-700s from GECAS.
