Vietnam Children Choir (VCC) has won the silver medal at the fifth World Choir Games (WCG) held in Graz, Austria from July 9 to 19.
According to the Vietnam Opera and Ballet Theatre, the VCC, including 13 children, aged between 6 and 15, joined the contest in folk song category which saw the competition of 47 groups from 30 countries.
The WCG is held once every two years by the World Choir Association. This is the largest games so far with around 500 groups from 93 countries with 20,000 singers taking part in 28 categories such as children choir, youth choir, adult choir, pop, folk or contemporary music choir...
This is the first time Vietnam has joined an international event of choir, a kind of art which is popular in many countries but still new in Vietnam. China has sent 60 choir groups and Indonesia has sent 40 choir groups to this year’s WCG.
The prize presentation and closing ceremony will be held on July 19 at Stadthale Palace, Graz city.
Apart from the contest, VCC performed at the Friendship Concert on July 17 on Hautplat square with Vietnamese folk dances. They were warmly welcomed by hundreds of audiences. After touring some European countries, VCC will come back to Hanoi on July 25.
