Vietnam - Ecological tourism gains momentum

355 projects of provinces and cities with tourism potential like Lao cai Thua Thien-Hue, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Quang Nam (Hoi An), An Giang, Kien Giang, Ho chi minh city were introduced to major global investors and international funding groups at a conference and exhibition called Vietnam Tourism and Properties Opportunities.

At the conference, many investors showed special interest in real estate projects including hotels, golf courses, resorts, villas, recreation parks and related tourism infrastructure, new urban areas... Projects on developing the off-shore island of Phu Quoc in Kien Giang province were thoroughly studied.

Mr. Dang Cong Huan, Head of Kien Giang's Planning and Investment Department, handed over the investment licence to Starbay holdings to carry out the Long Beach project at the cost of 1.68 million USD. The project includes a golf course, resorts and commercial centres. This was the only project awarded in this VnTPO-2008 conference.

Kien Giang province is now focusing on eco-tourism so as to preserve the eco-system and the natural beauty of Phu Quoc Island. At present, the province is carrying out two projects: sewage and waste treatment and protection of coral reef on the sea bed. Investors in Phu quoc must strictly obey regulations on environmental protection.

Representative of investors, Mr. Martin H. Kaye, Chairman of Starbay holdings, said that this company also had deeply researched marine ecology for tourism exploitation on Phu Quoc Island. "I believe that in twenty-five years, you will see a completely different Phu Quoc. However, it does not mean that coral reef of Phu Quoc will disappear or be spoilt,” he affirmed.
