On April 20th, at the Vietnam-Japan Culture Place (Ha Long city), the Medical Committee Netherlands-Vietnam (MCNV), the Ha long Women’s Union, Provincial Communist Youth Union and Education and Training Department will co-organize an international culture and sports festival titled “New youth festival”.
Activities will be held indoors and outdoors from 2pm to 9.30
pm with hip-hop and break dance, films, poetry performances and a
karaoke competition in the main hall.
Attendees will have the chance to see the latest
installation-art performances created by Dutch professional artists
Iris Honderdos and Arno Peeters, in collaboration with the Sunflower
groups in Thai Nguyen and Ha long cities.
The title of the festival reflects the need for young people
to find their own way in a rapidly developing nation with quickly
changing values and new influences from abroad.
Nowaday, Vietnamese youth can join the global youth culture
of rap and hip-hop, and cooperate in international art collaborations.
But they also have to learn how to protect their bodies and say no when
they are offered illegal drugs. So, the organizing board wants to
involve youngsters in a dynamic program which presents the responses of
other young people to these new challenges, and offers youth
information to help them to make their own informed choice on drugs.
Media producer and MCNV senior advisor Pauline Oosterhoff and
the Dutch artists have broad experience spanning over 15 years in
working on interactive public art programs all over the world.
In Vietnam they have been working extensively with young
women affected by illegal drugs and HIV/AIDS in Hanoi Thai Nguyen and
Cao Bang who have organized themselves in Sunflower and Cactus Blossom
groups.
