Tourism booms over two-day break

With the two national holidays on April 30 and May 1 falling just before a weekend this year, the domestic tourism market has become red-hot. The southern region saw a huge number of holidaymakers heading for their favourite destinations on April 30.
Buses and ferries leaving Ho chi minh city , especially for places like Vung Tau, Can tho Tien Giang, Phan thiet and Nha trang were jam-packed.

The Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station, from where buses headed east operate, handled around 42,000 passengers on April 30. Tay (Western) Bus Station saw 30,000 passengers board buses. Bus companies said both numbers were twice the normal figure.

Hydrofoils to Vung Tau were also packed.

The situation was similar in Mekong Delta provinces like Can Tho and Tien Giang where traffic blocked ferry stations for nearly three hours though all available ferries were pressed into service.

Of the 10,000 visitors flocking to Hue Vietnamese accounted for 80 percent. Da nang witnessed a similar situation with all rooms in coastal resorts and hotels being taken by domestic tourists.

The northern provinces weren’t left behind either. Several joined hands to host many annual tourism festivals on April 30.
