Vietnam’s first golf championship gets ready

Vietnam Amateur Senior Championship 2008 will be held in Chi Linh Star Golf Course, Hai Duong on April 18-19, said the Vietnam Golf Association on April 10. This is the first golf championship in Vietnam, opening the way for other planned championships for the upcoming time.

The championship will attract the participation of more than 60 golfers famous selected from golf clubs and associations nationwide. The golfers will compete over two days with 18 holes each. After that, the golfer with total lowest sticks will win the championship.

Also on April 19, the Vietnam Amateur Senior Championship 2008 for more than 30 governmental guests and sponsors will take place.

After the event, the Vietnam Golf Association will organize some other championships in 2008 such as Vietnam Amateur Open, Vietnam Lady National Championship, Vietnam Junior Championship, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam Championship and Hana Bank Vietnam Master.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chu, General Secretary of the Vietnam Golf Association said that the association will maintain the championship annually to develop golf in Vietnam. It intends to apply Golf as a pilot sport in some schools in Hanoi Ho chi minh city Vung Tau and Da Lat.

The Vietnam Golf Association, founded in August 2007, set up a championship system with the first Vietnam Amateur Senior Championship. The association is responsible for promoting the sport to people, training young athletes and introducing Vietnam golf tourism to the world.
