Country pop sensation Le Minh Son will be giving local fans a treat with live performances on August 1 and 2 at the Ha noi Opera House.

Following his first hit show in 2007, this is Son's second head-lining performance. Son said he will have a surprise for fans this year, with 10 new original songs he has yet to release.

"They are in a totally new style, different than what fans are used to hearing from Le Minh Son," he said.

Fans shouldn't be too worried, as the show titled Le Minh Son-Netviet will also include the favourites that made him famous such as Ben Bo Ao Nha Minh, Gio Mua Ve, Cap Ba La, Nang Len, Chuon Chuon Ot and Got Sen. A line-Up of pop stars will be joining him including Thanh Lam, Ngoc Khue, Tung Duong, Trong Tan, Khanh Linh and Ha Linh.

While Son treated audiences last year with his singing voice, this year he plans to stick to the guitar with Xuan Phuong joining him on the piano.

Son's combination of pop music and Vietnamese traditional tunes has lead to much discussion among music critics, the media and music fans alike.

Born in 1975, Son trained for 15 years as a classical guitarist at the Ha noi Conservatory. At the beginning of 2000, Son tried his hand at composing and rose to fame after his first songs Ben Bo Ao Nha Minh and Chuon Chuon Ot were performed by Ngoc Khue. Khue had risen to fame with Vietnam's own version of American Idol, Sao Mai Diem Hen, in 2004.

While Son's music was originally shunned by conservative Vietnamese music fans, he triggered a new wave as audiences began to love his daring adoption of music forms previously unheard of in Vietnam While Son didn't go much beyond formula pop tunes, he borrowed from Vietnamese folk melodies, making him stand out from other Vietnamese pop composers.

Last year, tickets to his show were sold at up to VND3 million (US$200) on the black market, ten times what he expected. He has since released 11 different albums. One of these albums sold more than 40,000 copies in Vietnam, where a sale of 25,000 or more is considered a hit album.

Tickets to this year's show will be on sale at the Ha Noi Opera House, with prices ranging from VND200,000-400,000.
