The Vietnam tourism sector is planning to invite global tourism groups to the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2009 (ATF) to be held from January 5-12, 2009 in Hanoi
Nguyen Quoc Ky, acting chief of Vietnam National
Administration of Tourism, said that the administration will invite ten tourism
groups, such as Thomas Cook, Voyages, Tui-group, Kourni, to Vietnam for the
ATF 2009. Vietnam will welcome the delegations
at the national level. According to Ky, Vietnam has not done business with
any big tourism groups so far.
It will be a good chance for Vietnam to promote its image among
international investors at the ATF.
The event is expected to draw the participation of about 1,500 delegates
including ministers and leaders of national tourism agencies, enterprises and
intra- and extra-regional press agencies.
Eight ATF sub-committees have been established to carry out
preparations. Brochures and posters will be circulated at official conferences,
hotels, on Vietnam airlines flights newspapers, and television.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the ATF will
include meetings of professionals, ASEAN tourism offices, the ASEAN national
tourism agencies, ASEAN with partners; a ministerial conference of ASEAN
tourism; and a press conference with Tourism Ministers.
The Travex Fair will also be held at the Giang Vo Exhibition Centre with
some 450 booths showcasing a wide range of products from ASEAN
countries.
Through these meetings, participants will work out a plan to implement
the ASEAN Tourism Agreement, discuss orientations for cooperation, and implement
the roadmap on regional integration in ASEAN towards the goal of building the
ASEAN tourism community by 2019.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also set up a steering
committee headed by Minister Hoang Anh Tuan.
