Vietnam’s water puppetry promoted in Asia – Pacific

Vietnam Puppetry Theatre is the only one art troupe invited to perform at at the Asia – Pacific UNESCO Congress recently held in Bulacan, the Philippines.
Deputy director of the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre Ngo Thanh Thuy, head of the group to the Philippines said that was a great honour for them to have an opputunity to perform for ambassadors and officials of the 47 embassies in Asia – Pacific region.

During the time in the Philippines from May 16 to 22, Vietnamese artists joined a seminar on preserving and tapping Asian – Pacific cultural heritage. “Though Vietnamese water puppetry has not been recognised as a world cultural heritage, it is a good chance to advertise the art to international friends,” said Thuy.

Vietnamese artists were also invited to a talk show on traditional cultural exchanges in Asia – Pacific region. The two hour talk show was broadcast live in the Philippines and on US television.

The theatre’s puppetry play named ‘Chuyen To He’ (the Story of To He), which won the silver medal at the first international puppetry festival, will be performed at the Hue Festival from June 4-9.

The play ‘Hon Que’ (Countryside’s Soul) will join the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary from August 12-18. The theatre has also been invited to perform in Taiwan from June 28 to August 27, Norway from August 22 to 24 and Finland from August 28 to September 2.
