Hollywood blockbusters screened in Vietnam - Vietnamese cinemas

On May 22, two blockbusters of summer 2008 were introduced to the media: Speed Racer and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

After Iron Man, which opened at Vietnamese cinemas on May 16, the first Hollywood movie of summer 2008, other blockbusters are coming to Vietnamese audiences.

Most of the films are introduced to Vietnamese cinemas and the media after they were screened in North America around 6-7 days. Thus, these blockbusters come to Vietnamese audience just 10-14 days after they were issued.

Without commenting on the quality of these films, the progress in film distribution in Vietnam has built up a habit for Vietnamese audience: waiting for the hottest blockbusters of the world at the same time as other movie markets.

With around 3-4 new movies introduced at Vietnamese cinemas each week, local audiences have many choices. Cinemas also have enough films to classify film categories to serve different kinds of audiences: family movies, Hollywood blockbusters, romantic-comedy, Asian movies, thrillers and violence, etc.

In the last week of May 2008, Elephant and Friends (20th Century Fox) and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Walt Disney) will be the choice for families. Iron Man and Speed Racer will compete in the blockbuster category while Run Fat Run Boy and Drillbit Taylor will be the choice for those who love romantic-comedy films.

Tens of blockbusters will come to Vietnam this summer, including: Indiana Jones 4 (June 13), Three kingdoms (June 20), Kungfu panda (June 27), Hulk 2 (July 2), Wanted (July 18), Wall – E and Earth Mission (July 25), Hancock (July 25), Hellboy 2 (August 1), and Mummy 3 (August 15).
