Seminar to establish Vietnamese ethnic minority day

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Committee for Ethnic Minority Groups have held a seminar to collect ideas about establishing the Vietnamese ethnic minority day.

The establishment of this day aims to educate expand patriotic tradition, national pride, and promote the awareness and responsibility of preserving and promoting ethnic cultural traditions and strengthening great national unity.

It also aims to honour the cultural identity of Vietnamese ethnic minority groups for an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity; help ethnic groups in Vietnam understand more about each other; and help each other in socio-economic and cultural development.

The organizing board said that April 19th 1946 meets several criteria for the ethnic minority day. On that day, President Ho chi minh sent a letter to the congress of southern ethnic minorities held in the Central Highlands city of Pleiku. The letter had deep significance on national unity.

Therefore, selecting April 19th as Vietnamese ethnic minority day is suitable. After the seminar, ministries and relevant agencies will complete the project, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Committee for Ethnic Minority Groups will submit it to the Prime Minister for approval.
