The luxury Dalat Palace Hotel is owned by a teenage Filipino boy - really! Under the heading truth is stranger than fiction, wealthy American Larry Hilblom (the "H" in DHL) bummed around Asia and the South Pacific for a decade. (Of course bumming is a relative term when you have a $600 Million fortune!) Apparently Larry couldn't find a place to play golf in Vietnam, so he restored the 1920s vintage Dalat Palace hotel and the adjoining Dalat Palace Golf Club at a reported cost of $40 Million (nearly $1 Million per room!). When he met his tragic demise in a 1995 sea plane crash, he left behind his fortune and a string of children from Vietnam to the Philippines. The courts recently awarded those children $50 million apiece in cash and property, including 3 hotels and two golf course in Vietnam.

The Sofitel Dalat Palace stands in front of Xuan Huong Lake, within walking distance of the city centre.

The four-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City presents some of the most beautiful scenery in Asia and regular scheduled 40-minute flights from Ho Chi Minh City on the new ATR-72 aircraft allow for daily business/leisure trips.

Located just 30 minutes from Dalat Airport and 5 minutes from the shops, market and Dalat Palace Golf Club.

Each of the Sofitel's 43 rooms have first class amenities including IDD telephone, satellite television, mini bar, safe deposit, in-house movies, music channels and hairdryer. Many of the rooms have a private fireplace.

Rooms comprise either twin or king beds (mainly king beds) and interconnecting rooms are available.

Superior rooms measure approximately 35 sqm; Deluxe rooms approximately 45 sqm and Junior Suites measure approximately 95 sqm. Presidential Suites measure 125 sqm. Only Deluxe rooms and other higher room types can accommodate extra beds.

Deluxe rooms or Suites are recommended for a family of four.
